Arkitek Hafadz believes in the philosophy of creative design that compromise between aesthetic values with sustainability. Sustainable design is not only about the inherent beauty but also balancing the needs between meeting environmental, socio-economic and socio-cultural needs. In short, the key is a holistic and balanced design.
Environmentally sustainable design takes into account the local environment by ensuring harmony with the ecology and the implementation of green design. Green design includes introducing soft elements, maximum ventilation, natural lighting, water harvesting and utilities for a greener and healthier lifestyle. Socio-economic sustainable design emphasises on design to serve the people who utilise the building. It is not only about utilisation but also a “pro poor” design to meet the needs of the marginalised “Bottom Billions”. Pro poor design need not be of poor quality, most importantly it is about an ingenious approach to ensure affordability and yet retain high quality and aesthetic values. Socio-cultural sustainable design is designing by taking into account local specificity. This includes designing by enhancing the identity and historical values of the local environment through the preservation and conservation of local heritage and the promotion of cultural self-esteem.
